Bone Idle is our third and final exciting radio project to bring to an end our second year of Media Production at the University ofLincoln. I am aiming to continue with Radio production in my third and final year as my specialist subject and am also aspiring to further myself into a career in radio. ‘Bone Idle’ is our half an hour live show exploring how lazy Britain really is. For this production I am the Broadcast Assistant, under this role falls a lot of responsibilities and within a live show it is down to my quick thinking to instantly work out an alternative or a solution to any problems that take place live on air. My role alters throughout the process from research and pre-production stages to the production/post-production/editing stages and on to the live show. In short I take on the multiple roles of researcher, editor, technical director, ensure all equipment is technically correct during all pre-recorded content and the live show and I also man the desk during the live show controlling exactly what content goes out live to the audience and how. Working in a team of 3 it is likely that within my role “some posts may be more closely related to assistant producer or producer roles” (Radio Academy, 2012). I will help the producer with her workload as much as possible in terms of contacting possible contributors and liaising with our audience and phone interviewees. Ultimately my role requires both technical and creative excellence, a challenge which I am excited to face over the course of this production. Bone Idle is an exciting show that I am looking forward to putting these new skills towards! Let’s hope it turns out as fantastic as I envision!
